Jacob LeFevre and Rebecca Bachtell Family

  Chester County, Pennsylvania  

The first Europeans settled in the Northwest Territory in 1788. Migrants came from New York and New England. Ohio was admitted to the Union as the 17th state on March 1, 1803.

Fairfield County, Ohio originally encompassed all or parts of present day Knox, Hocking, Licking, Perry, and Pickaway counties.

In the Philadelphia yellow fever epidemic of 1793, 5000 or more people died between August 1 and November 9.

Jacob LeFevre married Rebecca Bachtell about 1790 in Pennsylvania.

David LeFevre was born April 21, 1791.

Samuel LeFevre was born January 26, 1793.

In 1793 there was a Jacob LeFevre in Windsor, York County, Pennsylvania.

Isaac LeFevre was born June 20, 1795 and died on March 7 1798.

Jacob LeFevre was born April 2, 1797.

Margaret LeFevre Kelsey was born January 6, 1799.

At the time of the 1800 census, Jacob LeFevre was in Westtown, Chester County, Pennsylvania. The household consisted of

a man and a woman between 26 and 44 (Jacob age 34 and Rebecca age 30)
a girl and three boys under ten. (Unknown Girl, David, Samuel and Jacob)

Isaac LeFevre was born on January 23, 1801.

Mary LeFevre was born October 5, 1803.

Rebecca L. LeFevre Swope was born October 10, 1805.

John LeFevre was born December 3, 1807.

Elizabeth LeFevre was born September 3, 1809.

At the time of the 1810 census, the family was in Lower Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Mary died on April 30, 1811.

William LeFevre was born February 11, 1812.

Sarah Ann LeFevre was born April 3, 1815 (married John H. Long).

In 1816 they moved to Fairfield County, Ohio according to John's biography.

In 1820 Jacob LeFevre was in Hocking, Fairfield County, Ohio.

The household consisted of a man and a woman over 45,
a man and a woman between 26 and 44,
a woman between 16 and 25,
a boy between, 16 and 18,
a girl and a boy between 10 and 15, and 2 girls
and a boy under 10.

Isaac died on March 20, 1821.

Rebecca married Thomas Swope on December 31, 1827 in Fairfield County, Ohio.

Rebecca died on February 23, 1829.

In 1830 the household was in Amanda Township, Fairfield County, Ohio. The household consisted of

a man between 60 and 69,
a man and 2 women between 20 and 29,
a boy between 15 and 19, and a girl between 10 and 14.

The household was listed between Elizabeth Stevens Cole and William Long.

Chester County was one of the three original Pennsylvania counties created in 1682.
LeFevre is also spelled Ferber, LaFevre, LaFever, Lefebre, LeFever,and LeFevere. It is from the original Northern French surname Lefebvre or Lefèvre. It means smith.

York County is in south central Pennsylvania and was created on August 19, 1749 from part of Lancaster County.
